I keep hearing so many people claiming that theres going to be a big change in our consciousness from cranks and new agey wimps.

Here is my take on it, people are getting more and more depressed they are becoming more and more crazy as they move towards bullshit solutions and ideologies. This whole opening up of the mind and becoming more aware is literally a global mental breakdown and all these people are just going to go crazy.

Any one else think they are going to witness a bunch of people go crazy due to some placebo they believe in ?

I think that's why debunkers have such an important (though under appreciated role). Things like 2012 can permeate so many lives, that I wouldn't be surprised if something does happen... not because of anything supernatural or prophetic, but because people want something to happen. I'm fairly new to the whole world of CT's and stuff like that, only have a little over a year under my belt, so maybe it's people have always been this crazy.

Edit: I guess stuff like 2012 is just cooler and sexier than reality. And just to clarify, I don't believe in any sort of global consciousness shift occurring in 2012 or any other predetermined date.

I definitely think people have always been this crazy, just wondering if these people who think theyre into some enlightening group are in for the opposite of what they believe :)

Yeah debunkers are essential to place common sense in front of people, but like you say extremely underated.

I sincerely believe in the potential for a major personality shift in December 2012. Many people will become manic all because of the hype for December 21st.

The problem is that any "consciousness shift" will be due to the hype of the moment rather than any natural event.

Yeah I know about all that Matt, I am not specifically meaning 2012 is going to happen as they claim, I mean that the people are not going to get what they are wanting to happen. They are literally driving themselves to crazy ville and when 2012 arrives and nothing happens they will perhaps realise how insane they are and have been, IE they will have a mental breakdown because they are pinning their hopes onto something that simply is not going to happen and they're just bonkers.

Nothing at all out of the ordinary is going to happen in 2012, and in the words of Peter Joseph "end of story."

I've talked to so many people about this, and many just cop out and say "well, 2012 could be the beginning of change for humanity." That's about as stupid as "today is the first day of the rest of my life." I'd say 1962 was a year the world changed forever, or maybe in 1991 with the collapse of the iron curtain, etc.

No, instead a magical photon cloud is going to make everyone become a new age douche bag over night. If that's the case, I might as well go give a blow job to a shot gun right now.

I remember worse hysteria coming close to Y2K, and I had to deal with it directly working in the computer industry. I've mentioned before that my boss at the time stocked up on tons of food and bought a lot of guns, and this confirmed to me that many people in the computer industry know nothing about computers -- especially in management.

To this day, his family is trying to find ways to use all that crap, and he's never once fired his guns. He learned his lesson, but many people did, and the same people freaking out about Y2K are freaking out now about 2012.

What's most interesting, though, about 2012 is how vast the theories are, and most are based on the idea the Mayans said the world would end, which they never did. Even certain astrologers moved the age of Aquarius from about 600 years from now, to 2012 so it'd match up.

My prediction for December 21st, 2010:
1) People still won't care about TZM
2) Acharya S will still be a nobody
3) Alex Jones will still be saying martial law is right around the corner
4) Niburu or whatever will still be about to hit us, just at later date
5) They still won't find a cure for inappropriate flatulence.
6) Elvis and Tupac Shakur will still be dead.
7) The Beatles still won't have gotten back together.
8) It will still be difficult for most men get women to sleep with them, and take effort.
9) Seth MacFarlane will have 900 cartoons on TV, all with the same premise.

Feel free to help me add to this list, and we'll add it to the 2012 article - the more humorous the better.

I paid for it too; remember the scene from the Coneheads where Primaat was reading the Bible? I felt the same way. If you don't know the scene, you're a non-nerd and probably shouldn't be here. ;D

Just because someone writes a book and steals a whole lot from another pseudo-scholar, doesn't make them a scholar. I get a lot of people that freak out on me because of what I say about Acharya S. Her followers are nutty as hell. Their best defense seems to be just calling me names, like Ferseus, "kid", "junior high school student" or sexist.

Anyone heard of Terence Mckenna? He developed a program that predicted that something would happen in 2012. (The program was based on the I ching)

Here's the video: (3:00)

The yarrow stick or coins method of predicting the future. That has to be pretty scientific and fact based programming from the get go.

Im not saying its true, geez, but since I have also had the program he developed on my computer...I can't say that he's out of his mind. Also, they are going to turn on the LHC in 2012. ;) Time travel would be cool in my opinion. :D

Terence was not a conspiracy theorist in anyway or form. He is the one behind the saying: "The biggest conspiracy is that no one is in control." He was a highly intelligent DMT user (which our own bodies produce) that I wouldn't be so quick to judge. Just a friendly advice.

Here is the video where he talks about conspiracy theories:

If you still think he is a quack, then fine.

He is a drug abuser who believes in 2012 consciousness shifts and other zany things, there does not seem that much to dispute here.

Thats like listening to the local drunk talk about politics and claiming he is an intellectual authority, he may well make some valid points but it hardly makes him credible.

Okey dokey.

You know what? Scratch the above.

"In the early 1980s, McKenna began to speak publicly on the topic of psychedelic drugs, lecturing extensively and conducting weekend workshops. Though somewhat associated with the New Age or human potential movement, McKenna himself had little patience for New Age sensibilities, repeatedly stressing the importance and primacy of felt experience as opposed to dogmatic ideologies.[8] Timothy Leary once introduced him as "one of the five or six most important people on the planet".[9]" - Wiki

"He was also a friend and associate of Ralph Metzner, Nicole Maxwell, and Riane Eisler, participating in joint workshops and symposia with them. He was a personal friend of Tom Robbins, and influenced the thought of numerous scientists, writers, artists, and entertainers, including comedian Bill Hicks, whose routines concerning psychedelic drugs drew heavily from McKenna's works. He is also the inspiration for the Twin Peaks character Dr. Jacoby.[12]"-wiki

Far from a quack just because he used DMT and mushrooms.

OK so you really like Terence Mackenna, but he is a drug abuser, he does believe in ufos and consciousness shifts and 2012, and other such strange notions.

The evidence of what he believes is everywhere online, all those good points about him are fine if you want to defend him and I am not even going to attempt to dispute them, but what I have said is still fact.

So what can we conclude from it ?

You like him and think he is cool irrespective of his strange beliefs.

Look, I like drugs. I have always liked drugs. They're a blast.

But they don't make you any smarter and they don't give you any special insight. They just give you a really good time. Nothing more.

Yeah I hate all this BS that drugs make you clever, give you an insight into 'reality' make you more artistic, or whatever fucking cranky nonsense they all attach to the experience.

Drugs alter your perception of reality, they dont change reality . There is a big fucking difference.

I find it illogical to say that because you view the world different on drugs IE you see aliens and mushrooms talk to you and you slip into other dimensions or whatever. Suddenly these things exist in real life but you can not see them or prove them when you are not off your face on ketamine, LSD, ayahasca, psylocibin or DMT.
Its utterly preposterous and make believe, reality is what it is, science shows us what is what and until there is physical hard evidence then its just another zany guy claiming zany things.

Fuck all these pseudo scientific hippies, theyre claiming intellectual authority off the back of misinterpreting science through drug abuse.

There's no hidden spiritual meaning to watching the walls melt. It's just fucking cool.

Folks like McKenna and Leary (especially Leary, that megalomaniacal asshole) actually destroyed the ability for scientists to explore the medical uses of things like LSD, which had shown positive results in treating things like alcoholism.

But instead of being doctors and scientists, they became gurus and perverted the field. They believed their own delusions and abandoned the science and medicine they claimed to support.

They're relics from an obsolete age and should be left there.

Drug abuser? What do you define as an abuser? I don't do drugs myself, nor am I interested in them, but knowing what DMT is and how our bodies produce it, Im thankful that Terence brought DMT in to the light and bothered to discuss it with the rest of us.

To me a drug abuser is someone who does drugs to escape the real world, doesn't have a job, steals from others and is addicted to them. Terence was none of those things and that is a fact.

He "believes" in 2012 because his own program shows that something will happen on that date. Did you even watch the documentary? All massive events from the PAST were right there on his computer screen and the next one is obviously 2012. (You can even download his program to see this for yourself.)

I personally DO NOT believe anything will happen on that date, but the fact that his program is that presice does make me question the possibility of something going down in 2012. LHC being turned on that year also doesn't make me feel particularly comfortable.

Terence believed that aliens and whatever were ARCHETYPAL forces of the mind that drugs just brought forward. Thus pretty similar to Jung, but perhaps you guys prefer Freud.

Oh well. Anyways, I don't believe anything will happen in 2012. Some peeps who btw talk about the consciousness shift is David Wilcock, David Icke (he changed from believing it will be in 2012 to 2014) and Gregg Braden.
