http://conspiracyscience.com/blog/2010/08/11/the-usual-retorts-conspiracy-theorists-top-10-misconceptions-of-debunkers/</p>

My "top 10 canned ZM arguments" blog was pretty popular, so I'm returning to the "top 10" format to take apart conspiracy theorists' most popular misconceptions of, and arguments against, people like us.

Here you'll find such perennial favorites as "Why do you love the government?", "You're brainwashed by the media," "You must believe in coincidences," "You don't look at the evidence," "You're biased," and the ever-popular "You're a government disinfo agent."

Enjoy.

I liked this one a lot, though I would say that the Judy Wood Beams are more like Star Wars beams than Star Trek beams. This is to bait Matt who has gone missing and has also disappeared off last.fm.

Great article, Muertos. Your extensive writing is making me look bad ;] This will definitely be helpful when talking with CTs on facebook, forums, etc. getting their main defensive points out of the way.

I'm just burning time until my teaching job starts in September, that's why I have time to waste on this stuff. You'll see far less from me after September. Sure the CTs will be happy to hear that.

For a more rational view of how ruling elites form and perpetuate themselves, even when they fuck up badly, you might like to read:

I've pretty much encountered all of these strawman arguments. One of my favorites is the shill accusation. As if the government is really telling random people to debunk conspiracies.

But my fave is that anyone who dares to question a conspiracy must be a person who never questions the government. Just who actually thinks that way? "Oh, the government is perfect and honest, la la la."

On our YouTube channel I just got accused by some guy who believes pretty much every conspiracy theory under the sun of actually working for Zeitgeist.

"Just who actually thinks that way? "Oh, the government is perfect and honest, la la la."

chances are thats probably how they saw the government until they "woke up" so they assume everyone else has a similar train of thought

Comment on this article from a conspiracy theorist (Michael Bielawski on the "9/11 Conspiracy Theories are BS" Facebook group):

"What the hell is this? These points are vague and child like."

Yeah, that one was rich. And when he called everybody on the group "fluoride-heads."

He's better than Mehmet Inan, though. That guy was nuts. Basically that group's equivalent of our all-time biggest troll who shall not be named (his name rhymes with "Len") except with the anti-Semitic rhetoric cranked way up. Michael at least doesn't appear to be an anti-Semite.
