I'm actually more in favour of the basic-income idea than I used to be, though I reckon to make it work in a community that is in a country that doesn't have it, that it would be necessary to have a solution to the problem of the place filling up with too many non-workers.

To that end, I wonder about the idea of if you run out of volunteer labour, start culling the non-workers by randomly choosing them to be thrown out and replaced by one hopes those queueing to get in..

It would mean though that the elderly and handicaped who might not be able to offer much in the way of work would suffer, alongside those just bone idle. But I think it might at least offer a functional system that adjusts to the demands of labour and rewards those that have worked in the community with a greater chance to stay than those that have not.

The only issue with the basic income idea is it generally appears to be another tax (an expense on citizens) when it comes to funding it. But I have seen couple non-tax ideas of it that seem workable.
