The recent press conference by Obama/Harper (transcript here http://www.thestar.com/news/canada/article/590305), video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=preIE7u3nsY) has generated a lot of conspiracy buzz about a north american union and the inevitable destruction of sovereignty for both Canadians and Americans that will soon follow. Some articles are saying that Obama and Harper are calling for the creation of the worlds first super-state.

I've already tried to refute a few points. In particular, amongst people that claim that some sort of deal has been secretly signed. As far as I can tell, nothing has been signed (no legislation passed), and as far as it being secret... well, it seems you don't issue press releases or hold news conferences announcing secret plans.

I had a friend rebut with an article from the Toronto Star, claiming to have a secret communications strategy document issued by Canadian Public Safety Minister Vic Toews.

Now, I've searched the internet for such a document, and can only turn up forum and blog postings discussing this news article. I even sent a letter to The Star's public editor asking for the source. I really had no prior opinion about The Star, but I'm surprised what seems to be a significant online news publisher would completely fabricate such a story.
