Q7) Why are all of the models, designs and reference images from TVPDesign not available opensource?

To undertake this work for The Venus Project we signed a non disclosure agreement to protect the designs of Jacque Fresco, I understand peoples concerns over open source however we feel that open sourcing the project would be detrimental at this stage as not enough people fully understand the complexities of the social and technical research & development that has gone into the overall design of the project.

Until such time as a countries agreement (global agreement prefered) on a move toward a Resource Based Economy then these designs could and likely would be used by others for profit, which is something we wish to avoid. It is important at this stage to keep the integrity of the total system design as proposed by Jacque Fresco as we have yet to see any other projects globally that address all of the issues socially and technically that the Venus Project deals with.

Therefore the reference images etc are not available to anyone who has not signed the TVP CGI Volunteer Agreement.

Sounds like credentialism to me!! I thought we were communists!

1) First of all, why not publish them with a not-for-profit license?
2) Nobody will invest millions of dollars to "steal" (=copy) a design some old guy made.
3) Even if someone did, and that will happen exactly zero times, who cares? People make some money, big deal.

If that doesn't make you doubt the existence of those designs, I dunno what does.

I don't think he really has many actual blueprints, if any at all. Who's with me?

He probably just has a bunch of rough sketches of things that will never work anyway.

Just remember that you're talking about a guy who suggested to build cities in the sea in case we run out of land.

If TVP were more popular, there'd be seven cities in that article:

Nice link CJ, apparently nothing Fresco spouts is original:

"And Gillette was dead serious about his mega-city. Not only did he write a book on the subject of Metropolis, detailing dimensions and specific methods of implementation, he also wrote a book on the hypothetical company that should create and manage it. He offered the presidency of said company to Theodore Roosevelt at the bargain price of $1 million. Which seems like a pretty fair trade once you realize that one of Gillette's main goals was to abolish the concept of money entirely."

"Living in a dome doesn't eliminate crime, after all -- there are still going to be rough parts of town. It's like the great man once said: "Just because we're trapped in a bubble, doesn't mean we can't cause any trouble." So what if you live in the dome and you're not entirely comfortable with throwing Junior on public transit to receive his education? Well, MXC has thought of that, too: Instead of going to class, Junior will be practicing lifelong learning -- An educational theory that has children constantly building knowledge throughout their lifetimes, and according to their own wishes, with no compulsory formal education. In theory, this would result in well-rounded children with an eternal passion for all things academic. In practice, it actually results in agoraphobic Level 60 clerics who fly into rages when they see people kissing, as anybody who's known a homeschooled child can attest to."

That must come as a real surprise to you, I hope you weren't overwhelmed by the shock.

On a more serious note, these kinds of top-down city-in-a-box ideas with radically different economic or political paradigms aren't new, Fresco just added a few claims, which in themselves might even be true, extrapolates them beyond recognition and it somehow matched the Zeitgeist (scnr):
Lawyers aren't just working in a partially broken system, they're criminals who belong in jail.
The prince of Dubai isn't just ill-advised to plan a huge tower building (probably never happened), he is an asshole.
Private allocation of goods isn't just a potentially corruptive influence on macro-economic processes, it is the sole creator of scarcity in an era of technological abundance.
Environmental influence isn't just an important factor in social development, it is the only factor.

It's kinda the type of misrepresentation of science xkcd pokes fun at, only that he's not representing anyone, but cleverly avoiding the topic by saying that nobody ever invents anything.

This is actually great stuff, basically you don't get to see the proof until you sign all your assets to (insert random zeitard pawn). But no sir, they are not a cult.

Yeah people buy this crap, I know a guy who thinks this makes perfect sense - he told me if Fresco opened up his archives the corporations would steal the lot and patent it and lock it all away in their vaults :-) All you can do is smile, grab another beer and enjoy the weather.

Yeah I have doubted the authenticity of these blue prints for a long time now and I completely doubt they have anything of value or technical standards to pass any architects viewing.

Of course the usual answer is that Frescos designs are so advanced that the avergae architect would not have the foresight to see his genius !

You can not win in an argument with a cultie on these points because they're too fucking stupid to see they're being duped.

I doubt any "blue prints" exist. They're probably talking about Fresco's silly doodlings, which aren't blue prints. They're doodles.

I doubt they exist too, I would imagine all that exists are those painfully dated artist renderings of circle buildings made from plastic. I made a post about this on the blog discussing all the considerations needed to design a city, its understructure, its cabling, sewage, its thoroughfares, its electrical designs, its air conditioning, its sound proofing, its safety and fire prevention etc.... Of course culties would have you believe that fresco has envisaged every single detail and is an expert in every required field to be able to design an entire city with every necessary condition in place already.

Basically the reason he wont put them on the table is simply this...

It will show how unprepared and how amateur he really he is, because noone would follow him if they realised all he has is some scraps of paper with put thingamibob here, invent everlasting ecology safe plastic and use here on his drawings.

Zeitards love making excuses for his shortcomings by pointing out his age, but Fresco seems coherent enough to make everyone he shares his doodles with sign NDAs.

Please, just look at his models. They're like an RTS game where the cavalry is about the same size of the stable. And the stable is missing doors.
