"They'll jail people for trading gold. One person in the USA already got convicted for trading silver dollars."

Okay, first off, this isn't true. This is what NotHaus was convicted for:

-----

According to federal prosecutors, Liberty coins were marked with the dollar sign; the words "dollar," "USA," "Liberty," "Trust in God" (instead of "In God We Trust"); and other features associated with legitimate U.S. coins.

Prosecutors claimed von Not-Haus and Liberty Services had since 1998 been issuing, disseminating and placing into circulation the Liberty Dollar in all its forms throughout the United States and Puerto Rico. The goal was to compete with United States currency.

-----

NotHaus was paying his employees with Liberty Dollars he himself minted. That means NotHaus was not merely producing commemorative coins.

NotHaus was not trading silver coins. He was minting his own coins and using them as currency. This is illegal.

The Liberty Dollar was a good idea, but poorly executed. I supported it at the time and have subsequently denounced it later.

There is a way to circulate an alternative currency without making the rounds look similar to American coins which did confuse people. The way he structured the dollar was reminiscent of a multi-level marketing scheme so it can stay 'noninflationary.' This kid fails to realize the fact there are silver/gold backed alternative currencies without all these dubious elements the Federal Reserve claims is OK to circulate. I do still have 2 of these rounds in my silver hoard, but they only serve as collectors items now it's defunct.

If any one of my customers want to pay in silver I'll be more than happy to do that, but I'm not going to join Amyway just to get soap.
