Its blatant xenophobia. There's a huge body of anthropological work on the subject already, it frankly the whole thing is based on a deliberate overlooking of Islams influence into Europe, especially the Iberian peninsula, for the last millennium. With economic turmoil and continued demonization of "the Middle East" its no wonder we see such ignorance being perpetrated. We have the former head of Germany's central bank coming out with a book claiming that muslims are "dumbing down" Germany and causing all of Europes woes. I mean, does none of this not seem, i don't know, just absurdly racist?

I'd take it a step further and point out that as much of Europe continues to face a decline in birth rates, or at the very least a slowing down thereof, we will continue to see this panic because people immediately hold that Muslims do not adapt and change, culturally, once they are in a different setting. Turkish men, in Germany for example, actually widely speak German in many instances, and have even become a dominant group in the liquor industry in Berlin. These people participate in social life in their adoptive countries. All I see is a thinly veiled racism predicated on a false notion of "purity."

Im not even sure what kinds of statistics you'd want? That the populations of Iraqi and Turkish diasporas are not growing? They are. I'm sorry, I don't catch your meaning on this one.
