Level: 0 | One of the most common arguments that I heard against skeptics and debunkers, is that the places we we gather tend to be huge circle jerks were we all agree on a subject and if it´lie or not. What´s the truthness behind this and how to counter it?

Level: 6 CS Original | The issue usually is less about the topic than the way the topic is discussed. When there's a consensus on something, the data should point in that direction. If you happen to disagree, you should form an argument that is coherent, presents relevant data, and cites credible sources (unless it's original). If whoever tries to convince skeptic group Y does not do that, you're free to play devils advocate and try to improve the argument of the party in question, but I don't see an obligation to do their work for them. Sure, there will be some cases where someone presents a decent argument and still gets dismissed, but I'd have to think hard to come up with examples, whereas I remember three embarrassingly weak arguments just from last week that ended in "well you're just close-minded."

I shoot you dead. Level: 9 CS Original | Keep in mind, also, that you could make basically the same argument about places where conspiracy theorists gather.

STFU! Level: 1 CS Original | i guess it's just common sense at first and education/experience later. take desteni for example, when i read those blogs and endless 'i forgive myself for allowing myself to masturbate while inserting banana up my anus...' mantras - i just pity those lost fools. any sane person will do the sane, however we might disagree on how to treat them.

Level: 0 | A credible source is a source of information that comes from someone with expertise in cases of varying fields. Information found within credible sources are usually the most widely accepted facts amongst experts.

Level: 6 CS Original | What is, to you a "credible source"? Depends. Scientific papers are good, peer-review is important if discussing new or contrary research, and when you're discussing events, just follow the story to the primary source and assess whether it can be accepted on good faith or not. Sometimes it's unclear and you'll have to suspend discussion, but very often it follows the pattern "Insignificant story -> badly written news article -> other news articles citing the first one -> forum/blog post that didn't RTFA and gets the whole thing wrong -> person citing blog post as proof".

Level: 0 | Quote from Wolf Bird I agree, confirmation bias is very common on both sides of the spectrum. The issue when you apply it to conspiracy theories is, that 'skeptics' take the arguments of conspiracy theorist and then search to debunk the theory, sometimes with one-sided research, while conspiracy theorists, that suffer from confirmation bias basically launch new conspiracy theories exponentially. Once you confirmatively start researching CT's, you will find one after the other. By doing so, it gives people coming up with a real conspiracy a huge disadvantage, especially amongst confirmation biased skeptics. Since skeptics live on debunkiing all those CT's, even if they do it in a confirmative way, cause less 'damage', because their domain is basically whatever the CT's come up with.

What´s the truthness behind this and how to counter it?" Debunkers/Skeptic have a problem confirmation bias? Hell no; it is CTers that have that problem. They throw out anything that debases thier believe system and call it disinfo. Debunkers/Skeptic look at the cleams the CTers and with real research skills find them to be bull shit and then dismisses them. "Hope I find you in front of my car some day, so I can push the gas-pedal." Damarauder for threating the life of a Illuminati agent a Black Halocopter will be coming by to pick you up and take you to the nearest FEMA camp.
