Level: 0 | hopefully, and most likely. Nothing will happen. The world isn't gonna end, it'll continue on just like it always has. The Mayan calendar didn't even take Leap Days into account, so technically, if we go by the Mayan Calendar, we're already into 2013

President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho: porn star and five-time ultimate smackdown wrestling champion! Level: 150 CS Original | Quote from NewbieNo, nothing will happen, aside from what happens every day. The Maya did not predict any sort of cataclysms or events. The mere fact that the believers can't come to any coherent consensus shows that it's complete hogwash. Quote from NewbieThis is absolutely incorrect. The Maya did not have leap years -- this is true -- because they didn't need them. Leap years exist in our calendar to keep the solstices from moving backward through the calendar year, this is purely a Eurocentric view of how the sky should move along with our dates. Then there's the logical issue: the Mayan calendar has been studied for nearly a century, and accurately at that, so it's completely irrelevant that they did not have leap years, because we can correctly calculate -- and have -- dates in their calendar alongside our calendar. If we calculate a date to be December 21st, then it is December 21st -- we need only keep leap year in mind when considering our calendar dates. It'd be like believing that the Islamic or Hebrew calendars are not correctly calculated against our Christian calendar because they're lunar instead of solar. Please stop spreading this rumor on the Internet. It's not only inaccurate, it's highly illogical as Spock would say.

Again, correct me if I'm wrong and sorry for the earlier mix-up

President Dwayne Elizondo Mountain Dew Herbert Camacho: porn star and five-time ultimate smackdown wrestling champion! Level: 150 CS Original | Quote from NewbieYes, this is very true. To the Maya the similarity would be like the 2000 celebration was for us. Certainly a big deal, but not the end of the world, it would just flip over to 14. It's worth mentioning -- I think -- that the Maya made no predictions for the end of the world at any point. There's no original Maya sources which demonstrate this anywhere. They did make plenty of predictions, most of which never came true.

Level: 0 | Quote from Sasori Awesome! can't wait to read it. As for the request things, I don't think you can access it because you don't have enough "points" to view it (at least, that's the indication I get when I click on "requests"). I have 2 requests as well but I can't view it, I think everyone has the same number of "requests" indicated whenever they log in

I shoot you dead. Level: 9 CS Original | @Sabretooth - I've heard of new calendars, and about the whole Mayan calendar not account for leap years thing. My question is this...why the hell do we care about an ancient calendar for anything other than archaeologic and anthropologic scholarly purposes?
