Brainwashing you for money

The idea that a word flashing up on a screen for a millisecond could make you rush off and spend all your money on a product or a make you believe something you never would is ludicrous.

To influence decision making processes and to alter a persons personality requires more than a few flashing pictures or words in a 30 second advertisement.

This kind of brain washing that Conspiratards talk about would require years of constant attention to a human beings personality in order to alter their belief and behaviour. Also for the person to remain under control of someone's power they would need to always be attending to the subject.

The most these subliminal messages could do is cause you to think about something, for instance say sex flashes up on the screen or it is inferred , you might think about it in some way. Much in the same way me mentioning it now or you looking at a semi naked image would do, it is no huge effect.

When people talk to you in normal everyday conversations things people say are trigger words for thoughts and ideas in your mind that have nothing to do with the conversation, this is much like the effects of subliminal messaging.

You're right, most of these supposed "subliminal messages" aren't even intended anyway, or someone else could hear/see something different. To quote Muertos: "it's like seeing the Virgin Mary in a piece of toast". In other words, people are just recognizing patterns and such that aren't really there or weren't intended to be there. I'm not saying all supposed "subliminal messages" are un-intentional or accidental, but even those that aren't, why would it be to "brainwash" you? that's ridiculous... Even my Dad and his friends had to deal with what conspiritards were saying back 30 years ago, "these ads aren't trying to brainwash you, they're just trying to get you to buy their product" was their rationale. A much better rationale than these CT ers

What you are referring to is called apophenia and pareidolia. That is the collection of data that can be mutually exclusive and interpreted as meaningful patterns by CT's, or the seeing/hearing of natural patterns and interpreting them as meaningful supernatural messages.

Most conspiracy theorists do have a tendency to fall for this kind of easily explained phenomenon.
